The mailing ring creates an opportunity for the sending of letters. There is a list of members who have been inducted into the mailing ring. Each member has a member before them and a member after them. Each member may send, at any time, a letter to the next member. That member may add their own letter in response, and send both to the next member. This continues until every member has received the letter of the member immediately after them. That is to say, you keep (do not pass along) the letter you send, once it returns to you.
